IPL is effective for a range of conditions due to its advanced computer technology. IPL delivers a specific wavelength range, which in turn heats the targeted tissue without injuring surrounding tissue.
You will be asked to keep your face as pale as possible by avoiding sun exposure before and during the course of treatment. At your first visit you can discuss the pros and cons of treatment and a test patch will be performed to ensure suitability for treatment. If you are suitable the next treatment can commence within 48hrs of the test patch.
The nurse will apply some eye shields to protect your eyes. A cool gel is then applied to the skin. When the IPL hand piece is fired the sensation is like a sting (many patients describe it as similar to a rubber band being snapped against the face).Depending on the nature and the severity of the condition three to five treatment sessions with one month intervals are required. By dividing the programme into several treatments the procedure provides gradual improvement with low risk. Under most circumstances patients are able to return to routine activities immediately after treatment.
